Taipei, Aug. 29 (CNA) Twelve contestants from around the world will compete against each other in the next few months in the second season of a reality TV show to promote travel in Taiwan, the Tourism Bureau said Wednesday.

Shooting for the show, which features Taiwanese townships and locals' living style, will start in September and last for three months, the bureau said.

"We hope to diversify our marketing campaign to reach all kinds of people who might be interested in visiting Taiwan," said the bureau's deputy director-general Wayne Liu.

The series is produced in collaboration with the Travel and Living TV Channel and is aimed at reaching an estimated audience of more than 136 million worldwide.

According to the bureau, foreign visitor arrivals were 3.57 million during the first half of 2012, a 25.24 percent increase compared with the same period last year.

The bureau said it hopes to build on this momentum and reach the 7-million mark by the end of the year. In 2011, Taiwan recorded all-time high of 6.08 million foreign visitors.

In the reality show, 12 contestants from seven countries will compete in various challenges for a top prize of a free tour of Taiwan's 10 most famous tourist spots, including Sun Moon Lake and Alishan National Scenic Area, the bureau said.

The winner will also receive a travel allowance of US$10,000.

The challenges include trying local foods and taking part in Chinese cultural practices, the bureau said.

The contestants, chosen from 3,000 applicants worldwide, said they were excited to experience life in Taiwan.

"Learning about the people in Taiwan will be my goal," said Jessica Laine, 33, from California.
