Lin, the first American-born NBA player of Taiwanese descent, is currently in Taiwan on a nine-day visit, during which he hosted a four-day basketball summer camp and will attend an evangelical gathering. "It's much easier to shoot a 3-pointer," the 24-year-old point guard said, adding that he was really not that good at acting and that he "had to do everything 50 times." "I had to do it so many times, I don't know, maybe he (the director) doesn't like my smile or something," Lin said of the shot of him smiling at a child at the end of the commercial. During the 30-second ad, in addition to driving and smiling, Lin said in both English and Chinese: "I'm not here to live up to anyone else's expectations; I'm here to live up to mine. I'm Jeremy Lin. The one that I want to surmount is myself." In terms of choosing his own car, Lin said he would only buy a car with a strong and firm frame, as safety is always his top concern. He joked that there was one time a guy rear-ended him, but he barely felt the impact because of the sturdy nature of his car. The NBA star is scheduled to attend an evangelical gathering hosted by a local television station Sunday before his departure for the United States the next day. Lin, whose meteoric rise early this year with the New York Knicks attracted widespread attention, signed a three-year, US$25.1 million contract with the Houston Rockets in July after the Knicks failed to match the offer.
