Hotels‚ lodges in Mustang entry point displaced

Hotels and lodges at the entry point to touristic district of Mustang have been displaced following the expansion of roadways.
Hotels and restaurants set up at Ghansa, Lete, Kowang and Marfa and at Dana and Tiplyang in Myagdi targeting trekkers have no way except for closing the business because of the access by motorable roads.
The number of trekkers visiting these hotels has decreased due to the direct road facility to Jomsom. These sites are considered as main route from Annapurna, Nilgiri, Tukuche peaks to Dhaulagiri Icefall.
Hoteliers here have started shifting their businesses to Pokhara, Kathmandu, Beni and Jomsom. After direct facility of motorbale road to Jomsom for the past five years, local hotels are in crisis, said tourism entrepreneur of Lete, Prem Tulachan.
The number of foreign tourists coming on trekking has drastically gone down after the facility of motorable road, he said. “I am really sad after my business with an initial investment of over Rs. 10 million is witnessing a low number of guests,” he said.
Similarly, proprietor of Kabin Hotel at Dana said that before the construction of motorble roads, around 15 to 30 guest used to come to his hotel in a day. But, these days, he receives hardly one to two guests in a day.
Of 70 hotels and lodges here, some 20 to 25 have been displaced, according to Chairperson of the local Tourism Entrepreneurs’ Committee Shanti Tulachan. Most of the hoteliers here have started swtiching to vegetable and livestock farming.- RSS
