Gardens by the Bay unveils plans for S$10m Children’s Garden
SINGAPORE: Gardens by the Bay has unveiled plans for a S$10 million Children’s Garden, a one—hectare playground that will feature water spouts and tunnels.
Slated to open in the first half of 2013, the garden is sponsored by property developer Far East Organisation.
Ninety—five per cent of the S$10 million donation will be used for infrastructure, landscaping and play equipment.
The remaining 5 per cent will go to programming.
Chief executive officer of Gardens by the Bay, Dr Kiat W Tan, said that like most parts of Gardens by the Bay, admission to the Children’s Garden will be free.
Dr Tan said: "It’s not only free in the economic sense, we are trying ... make sure the equipment is also of universal design, meaning, handicapped—friendly."
Dr Tan also gave an update of the visitorship to the Gardens by the Bay, saying the gardens has seen 1.7 million visitors since it opened on June 29.
About 70 per cent of the visitors were Singapore residents.
