Kathmandu too has tourism potential, after Lumbini

A study report of the World Bank has put Lumbini of Nepal, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, at the top priority for investment potential. In a meeting with the tourism-related entrepreneurs and stakeholders on investment prospects in Bhairahawa, Lisa Choegyal, a consultant of the WB said that the report has also put Kathmandu as the second most potential area for tourism investment after Lumbini.
The capital city has rich history, spanning nearly 2000 years, as inferred from an inscription in the valley. Most of Kathmandu's people follow Hinduism, many others follow Buddhism, and there are people of other religious beliefs as well, giving Kathmandu a cosmopolitan culture.
The city stands at an elevation of approximately 1,400 metres (4,600 ft) in the bowl-shaped Kathmandu Valley in central Nepal, surrounded by four major mountains: Shivapuri, Phulchoki, Nagarjun, and Chandragiri.
Lisa, who is in the course of her study on tourism development potential in Lumbini, said that her study will concentrate on the infrastructure development, including standard and eco-friendly roads, five-star hotels and other tourism requirements.
Similarly, wider cultural tourism region linking Pokhara, Chitwan, Lumbini, Ridi, Palpa, Gorkha and Bandipur has been placed at the third priority in investment potential. source: http://nepalisamajuk.com
