Taipei, Sept. 14 (CNA) Some 150 kite enthusiasts from around the world are set to participate in an upcoming festival in New Taipei that will put their unique skills and flying devices on display, organizers said Friday.

The New Taipei City North Coast International Kite Festival will be held on two consecutive weekends starting Sept. 15 in Shihmen Township, with 25 teams from 11 countries and territories showcasing kite crafts and flying skills, according to the city government.

For the opening of the event, kite experts from South Korea and China will team up with a local group to perform stunt kite shows, followed by a first-ever "night fly" in the evening, according to the organizers.

A Taiwanese kite flyer will use LED stunt kites to light up the sky starting at 7 p.m., the organizers said.

During the four-day event, visitors will also have a chance to learn how to make kites and get their designs to perform aerial acrobatics.

Asked if the heavy rainfall and strong winds expected from Typhoon Sanba will affect the festival, the organizers said the event will be staged rain or shine.
